Complete Biography

Mark T. Howard is a life-long painter who is known for incorporating a wide variety of styles and techniques into his work.  Currently, Howard is working with the human form (painting from life) and plein air (accomplished outdoors, on location).  Howard works in acrylics, oils, pastels, graphite, charcoal and other non-traditional mediums.  Mark’s subject matter reflect his Hawaiian and Oceania experiences. 

Howard is honored to be an award-winning artist and illustrator, and his work has been exhibited in the Honolulu Museum of Art; the Hawaii State Capital; Art Gallery at University of Hawaii, Manoa; Hale’iwa Art Gallery, Crepes No Ka ‘Oi, Sil Vana Fine Furniture, Kunia Urgent Care, and countless private collections throughout the world.

Howard has undergone decades of superior instruction, mentorship and self-development. He is influenced by countless great master painters from Leonardo Di Vinci, Claude Monet, Edgar Degas, Paul Cezanne and Picasso to Marc Rothko and John Singer Sargent.  In this light, Howard’s main focus areas include: Plein Air, Life Painting, Impressionism, Cubism and Contemporary Abstraction.

Howard spent his youth in Indian Harbor Beach, Florida where is his father, also a successful artist, gave Howard free reign over his art studio. In his youth, Howard began painting with acrylics, water colors, lacquers, resins,  oils and mixed media.  He also excelled in surf competitions, carpentry work, creating surfboards, drafting and scholastic studies. Howard completed a twenty- two-year career in the United States Air Force in Hawaii where he has lived for over 20 years.  

He has an art degree from University of Hawaii Manoa and a master’s in business administration from Hawaii Pacific University.  Howard is an accomplished North Shore surfer who travels around the globe, riding perfect waves in the Atlantic, Indian and Pacific Oceans.  Currently, Howard resides on Oahu’s North Shore, in Waialua.

Life-long painter, Mark Howard works in the 2-dimensional art form, with an astonishing array of styles and techniques. Howard has undergone decades of superior instruction, mentorship and self-development. Countless great master painters from Leonardo Di Vinci, Claude Monet, Edgar Degas, Picasso to Marc Rothko have greatly influenced Howard’s work. Howard works in acrylics, oils and non-traditional mediums. He is an accomplished North Shore surfer; an award-winning illustrator; and has earned an MBA from Hawaii Pacific University, a BBA, and a BA in Art from University of Hawaii Manoa.

Howard resides in Waialua, on Oahu’s North Shore.
